The trip we had waited for since 2021

This was the adventure we’d been dreaming of since we first set eyes on our boat in 2021!

After years of anticipation and planning, the moment had finally arrived. With six weeks of freedom from work and school, we—Signe, Christian, Anker, and Vela—were ready to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

Since bringing the boat home to Denmark, our sailing adventures had been limited to brief excursions, never quite capturing the essence of what we had envisioned. The return trip from Portugal was a whirlwind of strong headwinds and tight schedules, leaving us yearning for a true sailing experience.

On June 24th, I graduated, marking the start of our grand voyage. Just two days later, on June 26th, we cast off from Sønderborg and set our sights north. Our first destination was Middelfart, where we encountered some rainy weather. But no amount of rain could dampen our spirits. A few days in Middelfart gave us a chance to fine-tune the boat—replacing filters, fixing the freezer, and mending a burned shower hose.

With our boat in top shape, we set sail with high hopes. What began as a planned visit to Samsø turned into a remarkable 11-hour journey that led us all the way to Aarhus. While there, we tackled some city errands and eagerly anticipated our next leg toward Sweden. However, the wind had other plans, and we found ourselves weather-bound for a week.

When the skies cleared, we continued our voyage, stopping in the charming town of Ebeltoft, anchoring off Grenå, and setting off at dawn toward Anholt.

We had visited Anholt before on work trips, so our time on the island was brief—just 19 hours—but we made every minute count!

Anholt greeted us with its charming harbor, spacious docks, and a helpful harbor master who navigated us in with his dinghy. Once we were settled, we dove into the island’s stunning natural beauty. We raced to the beach, where one of us took a refreshing swim, while our three-month-old puppy reveled in some much-needed environmental training. We capped off our visit with a delightful stop at a local café, savoring excellent beer and a feast of fresh fish and seafood.

Before we left, we made sure to stock up on langoustines, a perfect treat for our next leg of the journey to Sweden.
